Joke W.B. van der Giessen, DVM, PhD, Dipl. EVPC, is a senior scientist at the National Institute of Public Health in Bilthoven and the Central Veterinary Institute of Wageningen University Research in Lelystad. Her main interests are on molecular epidemiology of zoonotic parasitic (Trichinella, Echinococcus spp., Bayliascaris and Toxoplasma ) and bacterial (Brucella, Mycobacteria, Yersinia pestis, Fransicella, Leptospira) diseases and the development of early warning and control systems of emerging zoonoses in wildlife. Dr. J.W.B. van der Giessen is director of the National Reference Laboratory for foodborne parasites and president of the Dutch Society of Parasitology.
Prof. Wim H.M. van der Poel DVM, PhD, is a senior scientist at the Central Veterinary Institute of Wageningen University Research in Lelystad, concerned with Research on Emerging and Zoonotic Viruses. He is a Visiting Professor of National Centre of Zoonoses Research of University of Liverpool. His main research interests include Hepatitis E Virus, Rabies, Caliciviruses and Foodborne viruses and Emerging Viruses in general. Professor Van der Poel is also coordinator of EPIZONE the EU Network / European Research Group on epizootic animal diseases.
Judith M.A. van den Brand DVM, ECVP diplomate, is a veterinary pathologist at the Virology department of the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. She is finishing her PhD on the pathology of influenza virus and SARS coronavirus infections. Her topics of interest include viral infections (such as influenza virus, SARS coronavirus, bat coronavirus) and diseases of wildlife and exotic animals.
